I wonder if HTML code will work. Here is a test:

I am doing something wrong, and the pictures are not appearing. I’ll check with Mike. Sorry.

My great thanks to my elder son, Mike, who did all the work while working, tutoring, and undergoing finals week.

I’m putting this site on hold for a couple days in order to transfer over to a new server. Hopefully, this won’t take too long at all, but I need to get it done…well, last month, to be honest.

We’ll have things back up and running as quickly as I can arrange it.

I’ve made some changes to the archive pages for this site in an effort to reduce the amount of bandwidth that we’ve been chewing up.

As some might have noticed, from time to time over the past couple months the webserver we use has been automatically shutting down access to the site. This has been because the amount of data we’ve been sending out has increased dramatically: while text doesn’t take much bandwidth, images do, and part of what dad does is post a lot of images. So, as the number of pictures increases, so does the amount of information we send out whenever someone hits a page on the site.

For instance, from mid-August of 2005 (when we moved to the new webserver) through Dec. ‘05, this site averaged about 22 Gb/month of traffic. Things have been increasing during 2006, though, and (as the following graph shows), while from Jan. ‘06 through Jun. ‘06 we were averaging around 40 Gb/month, increasing traffic over the past couple months has pushed us up to over 211 Gb last month!

So, I did some poking around last night, and saw some areas that I could make a few small tweaks to that should reign things in a bit.

More details under the cut…
