Our visit with Kevin, Emily, Noah and Paul was wonderful — and long enough for the boys to feel comfortable with us. We did some child care time for each of them during our visit. We also toured the two main roads on the Cape, including Province Town where the Mayflower first landed for a few days of scouting before going on to Plymouth. The area looked just as I had imagined from the books I’ve read.

We then had a pleasant trip on the back roads through Rhode Island and CT, followed by a few hours of Interstate travel. Wednesday night we slept at a rest area on the Interstate in New York. There were many trucks stopped and the parking was full. We discovered the next morning that Pennsylvania doesn’t allow trucks to stop at their rest areas between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., so they had all planned a good nap before enterin PA.

We made it to my cousin’s mid-day on Thursday. Today we followed the Susquehena River for several hours, then cut across to Gettysburg. Our campground tonight is at Artillery Ridge. The campground is full service so we are full of water and the holding tanks are empty, the computer and phones are charged and we’re ready for a few days of self-contained camping.

The Gettysburg battleground area is huge. Tomorrow we’ll go to the Nat’l Park Visitors Center and get info to tour the area with a CD commentary, then figure out how to get back to Skyline Drive in Virginia!
