Fort Wainwright continues Iraq troop deployment
(12/31/08 14:52:29)
It may be a small unit, but the assignment in Iraq will be big.
This Fort Wainwright aviation unit will be tasked with security of U.S. and Iraqi leaders during its 12-month assignment.

Fort Wainwright’s Company A, 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment will be the third and last aviation company from this regiment set for deployment these last 18 months.
The unit is a mix of soldiers who have completed tours and those who are new recruits.
During a recent deployment ceremony Col. Chandler C. Sherrell touted the upcoming mission.
He says the unit’s job will be to protect senior military officials and nationals who arrive in Iraq.
Sherrell says this means escorting leaders to critical meetings at any time of the day.
