Toward the end of the war, no matter what wwas said by “higher-ups,” those of us actually fighting the war were becoming very cynical and unhappy.

There were many jokes which expressed the true attitude. Here are two:

How come every time we dig ourselves intoo a hole in the ground, we call it the light at the end of the tunnel?

It is easy to end the war. Take all the Viet Namese we know to be “friendlies,” put them in boats, and take the boats into the ocean. Bring in the B-52s, and bomb both the North and South back to the Stone Age. Then, sink the boats.
